BURLINGTON, CANADA | 2017
Burlington Public Art Labs is a series of three public projects created for the City of Burlington during their Cultural Nodes Artist in Residency program to explore and test possibilities for new public art programs in the city, particularly in the city’s designated Cultural Nodes. The first project Burlington Tea used a roving tea cart and a gifted cup of tea as a way of exploring perceptions of place, particularly from sensory perspectives at each of the nodes. The second project worked with local artists to map interest and build capacity in engaged public art. The third project was an exploration of future possibilities for creative spaces in the city, which invited residents of all ages to playfully imagine what the city could be. Together the three projects collected information about where and how Burlington residents wanted to engage with art by placing projects in the cultural nodes for them to engage and respond to. The result was a series of suggestions for future public art commissions in the city.
