Prince Edward Island Postcards is a project about sense of place and how it is shaped by representations of landscape. Because PEI is often understood through idyllic images of seaside landscapes promoted by the tourism industry, this projects playfully embraces the form of the tourist postcard. Key elements of a landscape postcard were photographed across the island: seashores, skies, vegetation, and so. These options were then voted on by visitors to the Confederation Centre in order to select the most “PEI” landscape. Two postcards were made from the results, the most PEI and the least. Ironically, though very different, both cards seemed very much of the island.
