TABLETS OF THE WORKING BEES
FOR DEBT+ EXHIBITION AT FLUX FACTORY
NEW YORK, USA | 2016
Tablets of the Working Bees is a survey-based work exploring viewer-participant relationships with labor and debt. It is composed of three large wax tablets that tell a simple fable-like narrative about honeybees then ask participants questions they respond to by marking their answers into the soft wax. The work draws on bees’ association with utopian forms of work and as a non-human register of how the forces of economy and industry leave their mark in the world. The tablets aim to take the the private, and often invisible ways, economic forces act upon our lives and make them visible public.
