12 April 2012
During the week of April 9-13, we continued to work in collaboration with smudge studio on a creative inquiry project that had us based in Sudbury, Ontario, while smudge studio was in Kyoto, Japan. We used our joint Amulets for Infrastructure project to find out what infrastructure elements of their cities (the built systems and formal networks that maintain a community) people were most concerned about or felt were most at risk. In particular, we wanted to know about the things people felt were important but might just be sustained more by hope and/or maybe just "too big to fail" attitude as opposed to good planning, design and maintenance. DodoLab's work took place informally at various locations in Sudbury while smudge studio combined informal interactions with a workshop format with students. We are now wrapping up this research phase and will be getting together in NYC soon to review research and plan a next phase of intervention.
