Jazz Buttons

In September 2009, DodoLab designed several informal interventions at the Improvisation, Community and Social Practice conference at the University of Guelph, an academic conference programmed annually in conjunction with the Guelph Jazz Festival.  Our goal was to provide feedback to conference presenters through simple survey tools that reframed questions or ideas put forward during conference sessions. We also staged a number of simple interventions at Jazz Festival performance sites and asked both conference participants and festival goers the provocative question "What is Wrong With Jazz?". We published the results of this survey in a local arts weekly. Toronto-based artist and DJ Chris Flanagan experimented with transcribing conference abstracts into audio scores and you can listen to some of his results here.
